| Cafédirect |
Cafédirect works with growers
to ensure quality required for the UK fairtrade market, guaranteeing
a fair price for growers crops and also returning a percentage
of profits (8% in 2003) to support producers partner organisations'
activities.
Cafédirect took delivery of RECOCARNO'S first container
of coffee in 1998 and has quadrupled the volumes ordered since
then. RECOCARNO'S exported coffee is used in Cafédirect
5065 Medium Roast, Fresh ground, Rich Roast, Fresh Ground
and Cafédirect Medium Roast, Freeze Dried Instant.

UK National Lottery Community Fund
provided funding for a three-year project to enhance the effectiveness
of 2 co-operative networks: RECOCARNO in Haïti and MACEFCOOP
in Cameroun, West Africa, under the REMA project
administered by Twin (see below).
The Community Fund is the operating name of the National Lottery Charities Board, the independent organisation set up by the UK Parliament in 1994 to distribute money raised by the National Lottery to support charities and voluntary and community groups throughout the UK and to UK agencies working abroad. Its main aim is to help meet the needs of those at greatest disadvantage in society and to improve the quality of life in the community.

body accredited to verify the conformity of organic products
against the organic regulations of Europe, Japan and the United
States.

| FACN |
Fédération des
Associations des Caféières Natives (Federation of Indigenous
Coffee-Growing Associations): a federation of 32 coffee grower
associations mainly in the southern part of Haïti. Between
them RECOCARNO and FACN account for more than 90% of washed
coffee exported from Haïti.

| Fairtrade |
Fairtrade is a trading partnership,
based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater
equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable
development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing
the rights of, marginalized producers and workers - especially
in the South. Fairtrade organisations (backed by consumers)
are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising,
and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of
conventional international trade. The Fairtrade
Labeling Organization International is an umbrella organisation
responsible for compliance with Fairtrade terms and standards. |

in the Dominican Republic. RECOCARNO are involved in an exchange
programme with FEDECARES to share information and skills on
coffee regeneration and crop diversification.

for fresh coffee cherries. A marmite is about 5½ lbs
but is not a precise measurement. Cherries are increasingly
being measured by weight. The marmite was often the denominator
for repayment of loans to spéculateurs. |

a priority programme for its strategic objective on Sustainable

These objectives have been the foundation of the practical and advisory support provided by agencies
