Carice-Mont-Organisé area, Nord-Est Department

The communities of Mont-Organisé and Carice are located high in the Massifs du Nord, less than 10 kilometres from the border between Haïti and the Dominican Republic. This is the Nord-Est Department, home to the Coopérative Frères Unis de Mont-Organisé (United Brothers Cooperative of Mont-Organisé) and the Coopérative Sainte Hélène de Carice Saint Helen (Cooperative of Carice).

These communities are reached only by steep and winding roads that are in a very bad condition, partly as a result of the plentiful rain that creates lush, fertile landscape that is also vulnerable to erosion.
